I’ve had ADHD for a long time. And getting me to do anything was…hard. About 2013 I started using HabitRPG, now Habitica, as a task tracker. The difference was so great that some people actually asked me what I was doing differently!
That said, I plateaued there a while ago. And the site hasn’t meaningfully changed in years. In addition to this, I feel I kind of was coasting for the last few years. I feel I only really started getting GOOD at RP in 2021, and then while I had ideas, I had a multi-year creative block.
Since the block broke late last year, I’ve really kind of tried to move forward on a lot. In particular, the Sundered Shroud miniplot I ran on Kaerwyn went very very well, and has pushed me forward into trying more. I’d been toying with the plot for a few years, but last year I crash-launched it after another character got messed up. Putting myself on-the-clock, so to speak, to follow up with it, was actually very good. It made me decide things, and I’m trying to move forward on more of that.
I’ve inherited a lot of settings over time and have forking permission on them all, and all of them need some work. Sundered Shroud, Three Pantheons, Wings and Prayers. META. Getting them more in line with my vision. That and building out Aikine for Kaerwyn.
For non-Kaerwyn stuff, I am working on Diamonds In The Rough, and Iridescent Space. I also still have my own stories to write. Three Pantheons novels, Spread My Wings, Learning to Fly, The Grave Shift, Camping Trip, Timeless Honor. And a huge list of blog posts I want to make, my volunteer work online, and just social things.
And then there’s digitizing my media, sorting my music and 20 years of random files, getting my thoughts out of my Mind Palace into Obsidian, and so on.
I’ve had to finally accept I’m committed over 100% and need to be making some adjustments. I’ve been missing things because time just disappears when I split it this many ways. And that’s gotten people to be justifiably upset at my inability to properly schedule things.
So I’m starting a new tracking app, ToDoIst, for now, to see how some more organization helps. In addition, I might use ColdTurkey blocker, and am working with PowerToys FancyZones and multiple desktops to try and reduce distractions.
In the near future I’ll probably be wrapping up some Discord servers and Telegram groups I’m on. They’re time sinks that don’t add much.
After that I’ll be revamping my notifications and trying to establish a path where I only work on a few things at a time, mostly focusing on one.
As for this blog, I think part of the problem was that I wanted all my posts to be massive insights, and frankly, I don’t have time for those a lot. And it gets me into a rut where I start editing it to be “Good” rather than “Done”. So my plan here is to try and post daily blogs that’re bite sized, and dig into a bigger topic at least once a week (though this won’t start until Dec 10th). I want to get many of these things done but I need to drill down on a few.
If anyone else has other input on how to better manage time, would love to hear them. But for now, this might be best for me.
Until next time!
