  • Stop saying cannibalism

Chickens are from Superorder Galloanserae, which split off from Neognathae 85 million years ago.

Hawks are part of “Neoaves”, an entirely different superorder that split from Neognathae around the time of K-T extinction event.

While it’s theorized that the first placental mammals divered about 100-85 MYA, there are no known placental mammal fossils from before the K-T extinction event.

Consequently, per current evidence, a human is more closely related to a cow than a hawk is to a chicken.

  • I swear I didn’t know about Blaugust

But I’m certainly not going to pass it up. Good practice to figure things out.

Lately I’ve been doing a lot more creatively. Definitely a bit of a mess focus-wise, but I’m making a lot of progress on improving things.

Most of my characters are from a setting created by someone else, and it shows. But all the creators have given me their blessing to continue.

For a long time, i didn’t make many changes to them, as I wanted to be somewhat faithful to the original canon they had created. But my recent RP plot I ran was…gratifying. I exceeded on so many of my personal performance metrics that actually I’m a bit terrified I set a bar that I can’t expect to jump over all the time.

And while I did have help, I think I did do a lot of things that were relatively good practice, but the big thing that would be most relevant is that I realized that I don’t need to be shackled to the creative vision of a creator that’s been absent for 10 or more years. I’m in charge now, I get to decide what happens, and if the story I want to tell conflicts with the original creator’s vision, well, they gave me permission to run my own instance and I make the rules.

I’ll talk about the settings a bit more soon, I think. For now I’ll tease you with the name of the one I ran the plot in, “Sundered Shroud“. Hope that gets your mind working. Later!

  • Is this thing on?

I’m Arrow, and for now, I’m going to be calling this blog “Hawk and Awe”, though that may change.

So what are we doing here?

Well, for now, learning. I’ve had webpages in the past, but the less said, the better. Used Livejournal too. I’ve wanted to build a website of my own for some time, honestly, more than half a decade. But it never felt the right time…I always had that task on my list that said “Build a website”, but it never got done.

I think the problem is that it was too broad a goal. It wasn’t chunked out properly and I wanted the website to spring from my mind onto the internet, fully formed like Athena from Zeus’s head. And things just…don’t work that way with me. The task is too large, so I never start.

So here we are. I’ll be building this out over time. For now, there’s the blog. I have a lot of thoughts on a lot of things, and while I’ve been posting them around online for a while, it’s been somewhat disorganized, and sometimes has been a problem as I’d lecture to people who didn’t have interest or spoons to deal with it. Furthermore, there was no easy way to refer back to them when I wanted to later.

This blog solves that by allowing easy back reference to posts on complex topics, and furthermore allows me to make my thoughts known without having to make others listen to them in a private message.

So what will my thoughts cover? Kind of a mix. I’d expect politics and thoughts on tech. I don’t know the quality, and I’m going to try and find my voice over time. I also will probably be sharing parts of my creative works here, both insights into the creation, and the finished project, as a gallery of my creative works and commissioned art is a future goal.

So for now, welcome. Make yourselves comfortable, and I hope to see you around here more often.
